So, the Giants have the best record in MLB at the break. A feeling of
deja vu swept over me the other day when I was contemplating this.....

The 2016 season! Remember that? Giants had the best record in MLB at
the break (very close to this year; they were 57-33) and they finished
87-75. So, after the break they went 30-42. Belt was emblematic of the
2016 Giants post All Star Game break. He went to the ASG that year, and
when he came back to play the second half it was if he had forgotten how
to play baseball. I mean it didn't seem like merely a slump it was so
bad. It was if aliens had kidnapped him at the All Star Game and
instead of doing an anal probe they sucked out all his baseball skills.
It was ridiculous.

I just hope this type of thing doesn't happen again this year. This
year it was 'the other Brandon' in the ASG and I'm hoping we don't have
another 'Brandon at ASG then sucking in second half' scenario 2021
style. And of course the team as a whole sucking as well.

Of course the crescendo of the second half incompetence was that
ridiculous meltdown in the 4th game of the NLDS against the Cubs the
Giants should have won to send the series to a game 5 in Chicago...

Belt blinks once and he's back on IR.If he's emblematic of anything,
it's a piece of bone china. He's been out at least twice already, but
the big difference is, they put someone at first and they keep right
oin winning.

Posey finally rounds the curve on his hip surgery and its having great
season. It comes with the catching position, so he gets dinged,
forcing the Giants to sub with a guy who couldn't hit Mendoza if it
was nailed to his bat. He also seems to hit home runs when they are
needed most near the end of the game.

They've proved that they can handle being in the lead and I expect
them to keep right on going in the 2nd half. June is long gone and
they've done it with or without Belt. As for the aliens, let them
stick the probes in the $%^&*() Dodgers! :)

Maybe Zaidi and his FO crew will prove to be more competent than the
2016 FO, which was basking in the glow of the third WS win, probably a
little too complacent.

Tonight they laid a beating on the Dodgers in LA. Buster returned and
homered in his first AB. Estrada took over at SS and he looks like a
keeper. But it's the bullpen where the Giants surprised MLB, because
in came Randy Jackson to get the side out and set up McGee.

After blowing the series Cards you might expect disaster in LA, but
the Giants did better than fine. Gausman was way off form, but the pen
picked him up and the hitters put the game away in the 7th.

Giants 7 Dodgers 2
