The Giants have given Anderson 5 runs and he's made that stand 5-1.
Yazz has returned to the lineup and that''s added some energy to the
lineup.

Giants 5 Padres 1

Andersons has shut down the Padres' expensive lineup so far.

Home runs: Crawford, Flores and the Yaz Man!

Being that this is an extremely important game, I'm wondering what
possessed Kapler to replace Yaz, who is hitting .290 with a HR and 2
hits with Slater who is battling to get to Mendoza.

Watson in for Anderson after Anderson starts off the 7th by giving up
a double to Profar.

Downright ominous of Watson to get 2 quick strikes, then walk the
batter on 4 straight pitches.

Yup, up comes Tatis Jr. and he singles in a run.

Watson makes a throwing error on Machado and there goes another run.

A sacrifice fly for Hosmer reduces the lead one more run and it's 2
out. Giants win.

Actually I think the Padres have a good mix of young players so their
payroll isn't that high.

They are just above the Giants in payroll:

However, these figures seem to reflect the pandemic season pro-rated
salaries.

Because last year, the top payrolls were well over $200 million and this
year, Yankees at the top have $109 million.

But next year, assuming a full season, Phillies will have the highest
payroll at over $155 million.

But I don't know if these 2021 figures reflect 2021 salaries which
haven't been determined yet. For instance, the Dodgers will have to
increase the pay of someone like Bellinger as he becomes eligible for
higher arbitration figures.

Damn, the Dodgers numbers for Betts is 22.5, 22.5, 25 and 30 million in
2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Looks like they paid him a huge signing bonus so his number for this
year is 32.5 million.

You're right, it does look good for the future, except for the
arbitration that comes up in 2021, but most of those are small
contracts/

The Giants look pretty good with only three large contracts and they
just got out from under Samardzija's two days ago. With Belt and
Crawford's improvements, at least the Giants are getting something for
the money they been paying.

I completely missed that Gausman and Smyly are FA's in 2021 and
Dickerson, whio played extermely well, is due arbitration.
