A very non-Zaidi contract of 13 years and $350 million dollars. At 6'4", he's or of the biggest shortstop around.. He's also not limited to right or left only pitching.

They must have been feeling some heat after signing a lot of short term
deals with players coming off injuries, which reduced their market value.

OK, he's younger than Trey Turner or the guy the Padres signed.

But I think the plan is after Crawford retires, Correa will move to 3rd
base or something if Luciano pans out as they hope.

They back out of the deal at the last minute. Correa's family was
actually in San Francisco for the press conference.

Some concern about old injuries, going back to his minor league days.

So Correa signs with the Mets.

So it was able issues that made the Giants back out. Zaidi had such a cheap image, I don't think any top players is ever going to sign with the Giants. And now, it's the Mets who have questions about his lower leg, after they were more than willing to sign him.

I don't think it's Zaidi.

Learning more and more it's probably Charles Johnson, who's got the
biggest ownership share and likes to give money to right-wing candidates
and causes.

He had a plate put in his ankle in the minors for a fibular fracture with a ligament repair. The plate was still there and that is what they discovered. That shouldn't have been a deal breaker, but it seems to be the same problem for the Mets.
