Nov. 23: Potential fits for Suzuki
After being posted by the Hiroshima Toyo Carp on Monday, Suzuki is
drawing a ton of free-agent interest, with MLB Network insider Jon
Heyman reporting that nearly every West Coast team is in on the
Japanese star.

Heyman specifically mentions the Mariners, "Giants" and Rangers as
teams in the mix for Suzuki. The Mets also have been connected to
Suzuki, with Michael Mayer of Metsmerized Online reporting that New
York has scouted the 27-year-old outfielder.

I hope they do it but it looks like they won't spend big so they may get
outbid.

Or maybe they will spend on top starters before getting into a bidding
war for an outfielder.

They have planety of room to go big if there's a bidding room. They've
also DeScalfani back for three years at a good price. I'm not sure why
they re-signed Woods.

I don't think they signed Woods yet.

If they do, it would be a value signing, someone who can have some good
starts here and there but not expected to vie for Cy Young.

So Zaidi is being frugal with the payroll. I wonder if the fanbase will
be tolerant if the team falls back -- they likely won't win 107 games
again or even 100 games.

But people may demand that they at least get in the playoffs again. If
they don't and there's a perception they didn't spend when they could
have, fans won't come out or watch local TV games.

Mets just signed 3 position players to big contracts.

They signed Woods and DeSclafani. They lost Gausman, but they should
be able to replace him with another reclamation project.

The Dodgers only had Scherzer for the length of his 2021 contract, so
he's gone. They're about to lose Seager as well.

They Giants still need to get younger and that means starting some of
the promising rookies from Sacramento.

Their replacement for Gausman might be Alex Cobb. Whats scary about him two yrs ago he pitched on 12 innings and gave up 9 hrs.
Guess you can't argue with the results so far, every year the team has
been better and Zaidi has filled the roster with reclamation projects
who outperformed the contract.

But it's not a poor team and with most of the big salaries that he
inherited off the books, how much longer can he keep getting hits with
these journeymen who didn't pan out on other teams?

What they did this year was basically a rush job to beat the deadline
for signings before the lockout.
