Aside from Kapler being anoited the Manager of the Year, all the
writers a flogging their keyboards, making it sound like Kapler did it
all by himself. He had a massive amount of help. including more
coaches than most use in one season. The blue print was all Zaidi's.
Yeah these analytics guys really believe in all the little details you
associate with managers or coaches.
For instance, Friedman supposedly coached some of their pitchers on
spinning their pitches a certain way.
I've seen references to Zaidi helping Gaussman be more effective early
last season too.
The Astros are using things like cameras to break down batting and
pitching mechanics in the minor leagues.
So baseball is really a top-down approach, at least with the analytics guys.
Old school managers would have rebelled.
