Of course, the pitchers want the most money and years they can get.

Aside from Kapler being anoited the Manager of the Year, all the
writers a flogging their keyboards, making it sound like Kapler did it
all by himself. He had a massive amount of help. including more
coaches than most use in one season. The blue print was all Zaidi's.

Yeah these analytics guys really believe in all the little details you
associate with managers or coaches.

For instance, Friedman supposedly coached some of their pitchers on
spinning their pitches a certain way.

I've seen references to Zaidi helping Gaussman be more effective early
last season too.

The Astros are using things like cameras to break down batting and
pitching mechanics in the minor leagues.

So baseball is really a top-down approach, at least with the analytics guys.

Old school managers would have rebelled.

the teaam of Zaidi's coaches tuned up Gausman. Buster and the pitchers
changed Webb's delivery and his pace. That was major.

THey signed DeSclafani to 3-years, 36 million.

They are apparenlty talking to Wood for a 2-year deal.

DeSclafani had a good year but had a poor game in his one playoffs
start, 1 and 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 2 earned runs.

So he should be no more than their #3 starter or maybe lower, may not
have confidence to start him in a playoffs game.

They need a couple of better starters in addition to Webb.

His performance dropped off in the second half, just as Gausman's did.
I totally agree about needing two good starters besides Webb. Two very
good starters, not a couple of inning eaters who give them four
innings and the bullpen.

One was said to be do to COVID difficulties and the other to missing
stickum. :) They supposedly got a good starter, but we'll have to
see if the pitching team works their magic on Cobb.
