Early in the 4th, Schmitt is already 2-2 with 2 rRBI's and 1 HR. He's didn't suddenly drop off the table and go hitless after his impressive debut. He's hitting .600 so far. Giants 2 Arizona 0

Other than 1 hit for Not Lately Lamont, the rest of the lineup hasn't done much yet. Cobb continues to pitch well and the biggest changes have been his location and a low pitch count.

Feeling brave or having no choice, the Dbacks pitch to Schmitt and he promptly doubles on the first pitch, driving in his 3rd run of the game, while elevating his BA to .667 and a stratospheric OPS to 2.000. :)

Good start for him. I don't think he was even the Giants top prospect
but he's older than Harrison or Luciano so I guess he was further along,
though he was drafted in 2020, so maybe he's the first prospect drafted
by Zaidi to make the majors.

Only 59 ABs but he hasn't drawn a walk yet.

I don't know, they need something from their farm system. Giants farm
system is ranked at #25 by Fan Graphs. Baltimore is ranked #1 and
Dodgers, who've been drafting lower than the Giants for a good decade
now, is ranked #3.

Dodgers have a 26-year old rookie outfielder from Redwood City. He's
got 9 HRs and 28 RBIs in 50 games, 163 ABs. But 63 SOs.

A 7th round pick.

I don't think he'll be another Cody Bellinger, who had some big years,
including an MVP season for them as a former 4th round pick.

But clearly they're doing better than the Giants of developing
productive players at the major league level than the Giants farm system
and Zaidi hasn't really changed that.

If they can sign big free agents, that might buy them time to improve
the farm system more but a lot of players, especially hitters, are
reluctant to play at Oracle Park.

So they have to get more out of the farm system.

They're 7-3 in their last 10 games so maybe by the All Star Break, they
can look at making some moves.

Currently #8 in the NL so if they're in contention for the WC, we will
see how aggressive the organization is.

They don't need to sign a veteran. They just need to let the young guys like Schmitt and Bailley play regularly.
Yaz is starting to hit and the two vets they signed are getting hot. Today's lineup looks amazing, compared to
lineups last year. Matter-of-fact, Schmitt just got another hit to push the lead to 12-1 against the Brewera.

Pitching wise, they're working two good rookie pitchers up the minors.
