The Giants have signed right-handed reliever John Brebbia to a
one-year contract, the team announced Monday.

The 30-year-old missed all of 2020 after undergoing Tommy John surgery
in June. Brebbia posted a 3.14 ERA over 175 innings with the Cardinals
from 2017-19, with a 1.10 WHIP and 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Hmm, is he the baseball version of Trent Baalke?

Mostly seem to be bargain hunting.

Can the Giants improve just with these small moves?

It kind of worked for the Tampa Bay Rays so who knows.

I guess it's good in a way, since he came from the Dodgers with almost
unlimited resources, that he's trying to get the most bang for the buck.

Or so we hope.

They do a lot of analysis before they sign pitchers like Brebbia. He
had some very good stats before he was injured and had the surgery.
They sign them to a one-year prove it contract. No much risk there.

They did improve over the 2nd half last year. No, Baalke went
overboard with his signing of formerly injured players. Zaidi makes
small signings that haven't backfired on the Giants. Not like Baalke's
did to the Niners.

Gausman, Drew Smyly and Drew Pomeranz. All post-surgical and all of
them played well for the Giants. Brebbia has some good upside.
